Sydneysiders have enthusiastically embraced the fancier Coles model that sees new stores or revamped older stores offer ranges targeted at the local community. The latest is Coles in Westfield Bondi Junction, which has had a revamp and reopened yesterday with a range of new facilities.

For a start, there’s a frozen-dessert bar stocked with mochi, gelato and colourful frozen macarons. And there’s a pick-and-mix for pets, with a range of treats including dog-friendly ice-cream.

Convenient meals are a centrepiece: there’s a slew of heat-at-home salads, curries and lasagnes. It’s also got a huge range of local and imported cheese, plus grilled chooks, hot roasts and popcorn chicken.

The fresh fruit-and-veg selection has also broadened, and shoppers can visit the juice bar for freshly squeezed OJ.

The area’s large Jewish community has been taken into consideration, with a newly installed kosher bakery pumping out flatbread, sourdough and cakes. There’s also a big selection of kosher meats and an entire aisle devoted to packaged kosher foods.
And as with other newer Coles stores, sustainability has been built into its fabric: it’s got partnerships with soft-plastics recycler Redcycle, as well as food-rescue organisation Secondbite.

Coles Bondi Junction Westfield is now open at 500 Oxford Street, Bondi Junction, daily from 6am–midnight.
